High school graduates interested in agriculture have something to celebrate, as the county government has announced the completion of Central Nyanza's first-ever agricultural training college.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong'o, through Agriculture Executive Ken Onyango, revealed that the Sh64 million Pap Konam Agricultural College in Seme is set to open its doors by the end of this year. The college, a significant investment in the region, has now completed construction.
"The contractor is currently finalizing the last details. We have delivered this project in record time, just as promised. It stands as one of Nyong’o’s key legacy projects," Onyango stated.
During an inspection of the ongoing work at the college, Onyango mentioned that the facility will initially operate as a constituent college of Bukura Agricultural Training College in Kakamega before transitioning to full independence.
The college aims to broaden access to agricultural training for the youth in the region, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills in agricultural production and agri-business across various value chains.
"Pap Konam Agricultural Training College-Seme is particularly vital, as it is expected to boost agricultural productivity by offering farmers advanced training in modern farming techniques, pest management, and sustainable practices that can significantly enhance crop yields and overall productivity," Onyango explained.
He added, "In addition, trainee farmers will receive education on climate-smart agriculture, effective fertilizer use, and irrigation methods, helping them adapt to changing environmental conditions.”
