Detectives in Kisumu County are on the hunt for a gang that robbed a shopkeeper of Sh3.4 million at his wholesale shop in the Nyalenda area. The incident occurred on Thursday night when three men posing as customers launched a surprise attack.
According to the victim, two of the assailants drew pistols and threatened him, demanding that he hand over all his cash. In addition to the Sh3.4 million, the robbers also stole two Samsung mobile phones and Sh189,000 intended for his Mpesa business.
The gang fled the scene on a motorcycle, escaping to an unknown location. However, police later traced one suspect, who was arrested for questioning after being identified by witnesses present during the robbery. Authorities suspect that the attack may have been an inside job, indicating that the gang might have had prior knowledge of the shopkeeper's cash reserves.
Detectives are actively pursuing additional leads to apprehend more suspects involved in this brazen robbery, which they describe as a concerning new trend in the area. Further investigations are ongoing as law enforcement aims to ensure the safety and security of local businesses.
