Empowering Communities: KCDF and Dutch Delegates Spotlight Impactful Projects in Kisumu

The Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) recently welcomed delegates from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for an insightful visit to Kisumu County, aimed at exploring transformative projects under the Giving for Change Programme. This program, which focuses on empowering local communities to take charge of their development agendas, highlighted two key initiatives making a significant impact in the region.

One of the organizations showcased was Step Up Together Organization (SUTO), which has played a pivotal role in advocating for the implementation of the Access to Information Act. SUTO’s efforts have been crucial in ensuring that local communities, especially marginalized groups, have access to essential information that empowers them to participate more actively in governance and decision-making processes.

Additionally, the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the work of TINADA Youth Organization, which focuses on mental health rights and services. TINADA has been at the forefront of breaking down stigma around mental health, while also advocating for policies and services that cater to the mental well-being of the community. Through education, outreach, and support services, TINADA is helping to create an environment where mental health is prioritized, and those affected can seek the care they need.

These initiatives, supported by the Giving for Change Programme, illustrate the power of strategic partnerships between local organizations, governments, and international stakeholders in driving policy change and improving lives. By working together, these partners are not only addressing immediate needs but are also laying the groundwork for sustainable, long-term development. This visit is a testament to the positive strides being made in Kisumu County, showcasing how community-driven solutions can make a real difference in people’s lives.
