Three suspects were arrested in Kisumu’s Tom Mboya Estate after police uncovered a fuel syphoning operation at a private property. Kisumu Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Boseck Lang’at confirmed that officers acted on a tip-off from the public, leading to the raid.
The suspects were caught within a secured compound where fuel was being syphoned from loaded trucks and stored in tanks for redistribution. During the operation, authorities confiscated over 2,000 liters of diesel, 40 liters of petrol, and 20 liters of kerosene.
Investigations are underway to trace the fuel’s final destinations, with suspicions that it is being sold to licensed petrol stations. Officials also flagged the potential for fuel adulteration, posing risks to vehicles and public safety.
DCC Lang’at stated that the operation was not only denying the government revenue but also endangering lives. A manhunt for the main suspect has been launched, with authorities urging the public to share any information that could aid in his capture.
Motorists were warned against purchasing fuel from illegal outlets to avoid potential harm and support lawful trade practices.
