Mp Oron disburses Sh8 Million To Sponsor Youth For Driving Course

Kisumu Central Member of Parliament, Dr. Joshua Oron, has launched an Sh8 million scholarship program for a driving school initiative aimed at empowering local youth. Dr. Oron stated that this annual program fulfills a promise he made to the residents of Kisumu Central.

Through this initiative, 400 young people are being trained in driving skills to better equip them for various job opportunities. The program is implemented in partnership with three driving schools within the constituency.

“The training is open to both men and women interested in pursuing driving as a profession, which aligns with our education and empowerment goals. We hope that those who have already benefited from the program will secure jobs in different sectors,” Dr. Oron explained.

Nicholas Otieno, Director of SHAPPIN Driving School and Chairman of the Kenya Driving School Association, Nyanza Region, pledged to provide the best possible training to the participants. He also assured that every trainee would receive a driving license upon completing the course.

Otieno further noted that the program is fully funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and urged beneficiaries to commit fully to their classes.

Dr. Oron also committed to helping graduates of the program find employment opportunities within the Kisumu County government. Highlighting his broader educational efforts, he mentioned plans to build a girls' day secondary school in Kisumu Central, which currently only has two girls' boarding schools, and a mixed secondary school in Kanyakwar, an area that lacks a secondary institution. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Kanyakwar project is scheduled for four weeks from now.

Additionally, Dr. Oron announced that in the next two months, a Sh20 million health facility will be launched in the Jua Kali area of Kisumu town, funded by the Ministry of Health.

Furthermore, he revealed that 1,067 students will receive bursaries for university education, while another 700 will be supported in joining various colleges through the Kisumu Central NG-CDF Fund.
