Florence Akinyi Aoko, 29, had been living with a man at Gospel Faith Church in Kanyamedha, near Uzima University College, until her sudden death. The news of Akinyi’s demise reached her family on the morning of Sunday, August 18. However, details surrounding her death remain unclear, leading to growing confusion and concern among her loved ones.
Tom Okello Langa, Akinyi’s uncle, expressed the family’s distress over the conflicting reports they’ve received.
“We were informed of her death at 8 a.m., but no concrete details were provided. Since then, the accounts we’ve heard have only added to our confusion,” Langa said. “Some claim she was electrocuted by a live wire while mopping the church, but others insist the cleaning was done the previous evening, making this unlikely. Another version suggests she was shocked by a microphone while leading praise. Unfortunately, none of those present have given us a definitive explanation.”
Adding to the family’s anguish is the silence from Akinyi’s partner, who has not reached out since the incident. Langa also highlighted that Akinyi was pregnant at the time of her death, a fact that intensifies their concern. “Her partner has been unresponsive since her body was taken to the morgue, and his phone is now off. Given that Akinyi was pregnant, the urgency to understand what happened is even greater. We are seeking justice and answers on how a pregnant woman could die in a public place without anyone providing a clear account,” Langa stated.
The incident was reported to the Dago Police Post, and officers promptly responded, transporting Akinyi’s body to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing.
