Tusker Sponsors Dala Sevens with Sh3 Million Boost

The Dala Sevens rugby tournament received a significant boost on Thursday with a Sh3 million sponsorship from Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) through its Tusker brand. This much-anticipated event, marking the third leg of the 2024 National Sevens Circuit, is set to take place this weekend at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu.

Hosted by Kisumu RFC, the Dala Sevens has built a strong reputation as one of Kenya's most exhilarating and fiercely contested rugby tournaments.

Charles Okanya, the acting marketing director at KBL, expressed the company's pride in partnering with the event. "Rugby holds a special place in the hearts of Kenyans, and we are thrilled to be part of the Dala Sevens. By supporting the growth of rugby in Kenya, we celebrate the incredible talent and passion of Kenyan athletes," said Okanya. He further emphasized the longstanding relationship between KBL and the Dala Sevens, stating, "We are very proud to renew our relationship with the Dala Sevens, a tournament we have supported for many years. The high level of competition and the enthusiasm of the fans from this region make it one of the most exciting events on the National Sevens Circuit calendar."

Former Kisumu RFC chairman Gideon Kidenda also expressed his gratitude for KBL's generous support. "We are immensely grateful to Tusker for their contribution to the Dala Sevens. This sponsorship will undoubtedly enhance the quality of the event and provide a great experience for both players and fans," Kidenda remarked.

The Dala Sevens follows the successful completion of the first two legs of the National Sevens Circuit, the 2024 Ingo 7s and Christie 7s.

The pools for this weekend's tournament have been announced, with 2024 Ingo 7s champions and Christie 7s runners-up, Kenya Harlequin, leading Pool A alongside Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, and Mwamba. Pool B features KCB, who will face off against Nondescript, KU Blakblad, and Homeboyz RFC. In Pool C, Ingo Sevens third-place finishers Kabras RFC will compete against MMUST, Stallions, and hosts Kisumu RFC. Finally, Pool D comprises Nakuru, Catholic Monks, Daystar Falcons, and Zetech Oaks.
