The Driver will be responsible for safely transporting staff, volunteers and program participants to various project sites and meetings within the assigned county. With a customer-oriented approach, the Driver will maintain the organization’s vehicles and ensure they are always roadworthy. Excellent route planning and navigation skills are essential given the rural terrain. The suitable candidate must have at least 5 years of experience driving 4×4 vehicles, hold a valid driver’s license, and be proficient in basic automotive maintenance. Reliability is a must as the Driver may be required to make early starts and late returns to accommodate community and stakeholder schedules.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Safely transport staff, volunteers, and program participants to all designated locations within the assigned county using organization vehicles.
- Maintain daily vehicle checklists and perform basic maintenance and repairs like oil changes, tire checks etc. to ensure roadworthiness.
- Log all kilometers, fuel usage and other journey details accurately for reporting.
- Address any vehicle issues promptly and coordinate service/repairs as needed with management approval.
- Keep vehicles clean both inside and out and store them securely when not in use.
- Assist with loading and unloading of cargo/equipment as required.
- Practice prudent driving behaviors and abide by all traffic laws to minimize risks.
- Maintain open communication with passengers regarding estimated times of arrival.
- Perform additional duties as assigned such as pickup and deliveries.
- Uphold the highest standards of customer service, safety and responsibility.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with at least 5 years of professional driving experience
- Experience driving 4WD/SUV vehicles on varied terrains including dirt roads
- Strong knowledge of local roads, maps and ability to navigate rural areas
- High school education minimum
- Excellent driving record with no pending traffic violations
- Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks
- Proficiency in English and local languages spoken in project area
- Experience transporting personnel and equipment for work projects
- Physically fit to occasionally help with light lifting/loading of cargo
- Reliable with a responsible work attitude
- Basic computer/logging skills to maintain trip records
- Valid certificate of good conduct
- Willingness to occasionally work extended/overnight hours as needed
- Meet all legal requirements to operate project vehicles
- First aid training or willingness to obtain it preferred
- Provide valid motor vehicle records/background check
- Willingness to work remotely and travel regularly within the project zone
