Incident Overview
Police officers in Upper Nyakach, Kisumu County, have initiated a manhunt for suspects involved in the vandalism of a Kenya Power transformer. The incident occurred during a Sunday night power outage in K'George village.
Details of the Vandalism
The suspects took advantage of the power outage to bring down the transformer and drain its oil. The commotion at 3:30 am alerted a member of the public, who then mobilized others to rush to the scene.
Escape and Police Response
The suspects managed to escape on a getaway motorcycle and remain at large. Officers from Ogoro police station responded swiftly, cordoning off the scene.

Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner Darwin Orina stated that Kenya Power is conducting investigations. He emphasized that anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law.
Rising Cases of Vandalism
There has been an increase in transformer vandalism and theft in the area and the neighboring county of Kericho. Commissioner Orina urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies in apprehending the culprits.

“Those who are near these installations must remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities so that those stealing our transformers are nabbed," Orina said.
