Kenya Railways Corporation has initiated the preparatory phase for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension from Naivasha to Kisumu by engaging a technical team to conduct an environmental and social impact study.
The team has been tasked with assessing the potential environmental and social effects of the project while developing mitigation measures in consultation with Project-Affected Persons (PAPs). This study marks a crucial step in ensuring sustainable development and minimizing disruptions to communities along the proposed railway route.
The SGR extension to Kisumu is expected to enhance regional trade, connectivity, and economic growth, positioning the lakeside city as a major transport and logistics hub in western Kenya.
