Dr. Raymond Omollo Defends Government’s Move to Designate Kisumu National Polytechnic as Regional Flagship Textile Institute

The Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has firmly defended the government’s decision to designate Kisumu National Polytechnic as the Regional Flagship TVET Institute for Textile Technology (RFTITT). This designation comes under the ambitious Ksh1.2 billion Eastern Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP).

Dr. Omollo emphasized that the move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to empower youth with practical skills, promote regional industrial growth, and position Kisumu as a hub for textile innovation in the region.

“This is not just an investment in infrastructure, but a strategic move to strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness in the textile sector and provide thousands of youth with employable skills,” he said.

The EASTRIP project, funded by the World Bank in collaboration with the Kenyan government, aims to enhance the quality and relevance of TVET education across Eastern Africa. By elevating Kisumu National Polytechnic to a flagship status, the institution is expected to attract students and partnerships across the region.
