Police in Kisumu East have launched a manhunt for a man accused of viciously attacking his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend after she allegedly left him for another man.
The suspect, identified as Sebi Obonyo, reportedly ambushed the woman at her current boyfriend’s house in Nyakbong' village, Kamjulu. He allegedly stabbed her twice — once in the left ear and once in the chest — leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
According to a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the assault occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Obonyo is said to have fled the scene after the woman’s screams alerted nearby residents.
“The suspect accosted the lady at her current boyfriend’s house within Nyakbong' village of Kamjulu at around 4:45 p.m., stabbing her twice on the left ear and chest with a sharp object,” the DCI said.
Neighbors rushed the victim to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by jealousy, with Obonyo angered by his ex-girlfriend’s decision to move on with another man.
Police say an operation to track down and arrest the suspect is currently ongoing.
