Kisumu Warns Land Rate Defaulters of Auction Threat Over Sh30 Billion Debt

Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga has issued a stern warning to land rate defaulters, stating that properties could be subjected to enforcement actions — including auction — if outstanding arrears are not paid promptly.
In a notice released on Tuesday, the Kisumu County Government listed 154 institutions and 1,738 individuals who collectively owe the county over Sh30 billion in unpaid land rates.

“The owners of the listed properties are advised to ensure that they pay outstanding land rates arrears owed to the County Government of Kisumu otherwise the properties shall be subject to penalties, interest, and enforcement actions including but not limited to auction,” the notice reads.
Property owners have been directed to obtain their invoices and make payments through the City of Kisumu Revenue Collection account at Cooperative Bank of Kenya, Kisumu Main Branch:

If an owner has already made payment but still appears on the list, they are advised to visit the City of Kisumu offices for reconciliation.
