From Bae to Payday”: Kisumu Man Fakes UK Accent to Woe a Lady, Lands Real Job at Call Center

What started as a desperate attempt to impress a lady has ended in employment for a young man from Nyalenda.

Brian “Brayo” Otieno, 23, went viral after posting a TikTok where he used a heavy (and suspicious) British accent to chat up a girl in town. “Hullo darling, might I accompany you for some ice cream, yeah?” he said in the video, sounding like a mashup of Harry Potter and a confused news anchor.

While the girl reportedly walked away mid-sentence, Brayo’s video blew up online, amassing over 80,000 views in just two days. Social media was in stitches, with some calling him “Sir Otieno of Kisumu” and others begging him to do voiceovers for local supermarkets.

But here’s where it gets real: a Kisumu-based call center that handles UK customer service reached out and offered Brayo a job.

“We need that accent—real or not,” said the HR rep. “The UK clients will love it. Plus, he has the confidence of a Kisumu man. That’s a win.”

Brayo has since posted another TikTok thanking the girl who ghosted him, calling her “the real MVP.” He now signs off his videos with “From Bae to Payday.”
