🌱 Strategic Context
This position supports FAO’s Green Climate Fund-backed project promoting climate-resilient, low-carbon agricultural systems in the Lake Region Economic Bloc. Focus is placed on inclusive benefit-sharing with vulnerable groups—women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples—while reducing environmental risks.
🛠 Key Responsibilities
1. Safeguard Implementation & Monitoring
- Implement the Environmental & Social Management Plan (ESMP) and Indigenous Peoples Plan (IPP).
- Conduct site visits to monitor compliance and risks under Kenyan law and GCF standards.
2. Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes with Indigenous Peoples and affected communities.
- Set up grievance mechanisms and local monitoring systems.
3. Capacity Building
- Provide ESS training and culturally appropriate educational materials for staff and local stakeholders.
4. Reporting & Documentation
- Produce regular reports, document lessons learned, and capture best practices.
📚 Qualifications Snapshot
- Advanced degree in environmental science, development studies, social sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in ESS or Indigenous Peoples engagement within development settings.
- Knowledge of Kenyan ESS legislation, GCF standards, ILO Convention 169, and UNDRIP.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of Lake Region local languages is an asset.
- Kenyan nationality preferred.
