Mob Justice: 28-Year-Old Man Lynched After Violent Rampage

A 28-year-old man was killed in a mob justice incident in Seme Sub-County, Kisumu, after allegedly attacking a villager and going on a destructive rampage through the neighbourhood.

The man, identified as Maurice Otieno Okeyo, was reportedly lynched by angry residents on Sunday morning within his uncle’s compound. Police say Okeyo had earlier assaulted a 59-year-old villager and damaged several properties while armed with a rungu, panga, slasher, and hoe.

According to a police report, the incident took place around 9:30 am, prompting officers from DCIO Seme and Bodi Police Station to visit the scene. They found Okeyo’s body lying in the compound, bearing multiple injuries to the head and body. Sticks and stones believed to have been used in the attack were recovered nearby.

Investigators revealed that Okeyo began his violent spree the night before, reportedly attacking a man named Johnston Otieno by cutting him on the forehead. The violence escalated the next morning as Okeyo allegedly moved from house to house, damaging windows, threatening locals, and even smashing a car’s windows.

The widespread destruction and threats sparked outrage among residents, who then turned on him. Okeyo died on the spot before police could intervene.

His body was taken to Kombewa County Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
