Mbadi: Wantam Campaign Going Nowhere, Ruto Headed for Second Term

Siaya, Kenya — Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has dismissed the popular opposition slogan “Wantam”—which calls for President William Ruto to serve only one term—describing it as political noise with no impact on the 2027 elections.

Mbadi Urges Ruto to Ignore 'Wantam'

Speaking at St. Peter’s ACK Cathedral in Siaya County, Mbadi told worshippers that President Ruto should ignore social media campaigns and continue focusing on his development agenda.

“Those who read social media and sit in a corner to talk about one term—you would be surprised. It’s an illusion. You’ll get your second term,” Mbadi said.

Western Kenya Development Highlighted

Mbadi praised the president’s commitment to inclusivity, pointing to visible progress in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, and Homa Bay. He stressed that unity will strengthen Ruto’s chances in 2027 and ensure the election of a nationalist successor who represents all Kenyans.

Ruto Responds with Mockery

The CS’s remarks came a day after President Ruto mocked the slogan during a rally in Nandi County. He likened “Wantam” to past chants like “Tibim” and “Tialala”, saying:

“We had Tibim, Tialala, now we have Wantam… We’ll sweep them away early in the morning.”

What It Means for Kisumu & the Region

  • Political Stability: Mbadi’s support signals confidence in Ruto’s leadership and development in Kisumu and Siaya.
  • Regional Growth: Western Kenya counties are increasingly spotlighted in national projects.
  • Political Messaging: The “Wantam” slogan remains symbolic of opposition defiance, but government allies dismiss it as empty rhetoric.

As Kenya moves closer to the 2027 general election, the battle between government allies and the opposition over slogans like “Wantam” will continue shaping the political conversation across Kisumu and beyond.
