About the Migration Youth & Children Platform (MYCP)
The Migration Youth & Children Platform (MYCP) is the platform by and for young people to impact the highest levels of international migration policymaking. MYCP is the Migration Constituency of the Major Group for Children & Youth, and the Official Youth Stakeholder Network to the Global Forum for Migration & Development.
The MYCP Secretariat is the Platform's compensated staff who lead on funded projects, programming and processes. The Secretariat is responsible for MYCP's external representation and internal management, administration and coordination. This is an exciting time to join the team!
Role Overview
The Junior Policy Officer supports the MYCP Global Coordinator, and wider Secretariat, in advancing the Platform's policy, advocacy and representation work, as well as internal management and administration. This role contributes and coordinates the research, drafting and input into global processes (i.e., the Global Compact for Migration) and ensures good and timely governance and reporting to funders and donors, and maintenance of internal systems and processes, as well as coordination of programmes.
This position is ideal for a motivated young professional with good administrative, organisation, and interpersonal skills and an interest in global migration governance, policy and youth advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
Secretariat & Administrative Support (30%)
- Support the overall coordination and smooth functioning of the MYCP Secretariat, the Council and Coordination Team
- Maintaining records of meetings, documents and communications
- Support basic administrative and financial processes, including tracking expenses, updating and preparing budgets
- Liaising with funders and donors, writing grant proposals and other external communication documents
Internal Coordination (30%)
- Support coordination across the MYCP International Council and Coordination Team
- Assist in organising internal and external meetings, agendas and briefings
- Provide regular updates on progress and status of activities across the organisation
- Responsibility for the coordination on the Youth Committee on Migration & Displacement Data
Policy & Advocacy Support (40%)
- Conduct desk research on key policy themes related to children and young people and migration
- Assist in drafting, editing and publishing MYCP statements, submissions and external policy positions
- Monitor and provide briefings on relevant global, regional and local policy developments and processes
- Support coordination with partners and youth organisations on outputs and policy contributions
- Liaise with MYCP's volunteer teams and collate information, resources and policy updates for external meetings
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- A young person from the global majority aged 18-30
- Demonstrated interest in migration and international governance policy
- Good experience of internal organisation management and coordination
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets & Word/Google Docs
- Excellent written and verbal command of English
- Comfortable working remotely in a multicultural, youth-led environment (suited for European working timezone)
- Leadership potential
Desirable Qualifications
- Lived experience of migration and/or forced displacement
- Command of at least one other UN language other than English
- Familiarity with policy or advocacy processes, particularly in migration/human rights
