Position Overview

Makini Schools is seeking a warm, experienced, and compassionate School Nurse to join our caring school community. We are looking for a child-centered healthcare professional who is passionate about promoting the health, safety, and well-being of every learner.

Key Responsibilities

The School Nurse will:

  • Provide daily medical care and first aid to students
  • Support children with ongoing health needs
  • Maintain accurate health records and documentation
  • Respond calmly and effectively to medical emergencies
  • Nurture healthy habits among students
  • Support emotional well-being of learners
  • Work closely with teachers and parents to ensure children feel safe and supported
  • Promote health education within the school community

Required Experience

  • Clinical nursing experience – Minimum 5 years' hands-on nursing experience
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly in a school or paediatric setting (highly preferred)
  • Experience working in settings involving child health, wellness, or education

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered Nurse qualification – Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (KRCHN or BSc Nursing) from accredited institution
  • Valid practicing license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and CPR

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, teachers, and health professionals
  • Comprehensive child health knowledge (growth stages, common illnesses, vaccination schedules)
  • Emergency preparedness and calm decision-making during crises
  • Excellent record-keeping abilities and respect for confidentiality
  • Empathy, patience, compassion, and child-centered care approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
