Position Overview
Makini Schools is seeking a warm, experienced, and compassionate School Nurse to join our caring school community. We are looking for a child-centered healthcare professional who is passionate about promoting the health, safety, and well-being of every learner.
Key Responsibilities
The School Nurse will:
- Provide daily medical care and first aid to students
- Support children with ongoing health needs
- Maintain accurate health records and documentation
- Respond calmly and effectively to medical emergencies
- Nurture healthy habits among students
- Support emotional well-being of learners
- Work closely with teachers and parents to ensure children feel safe and supported
- Promote health education within the school community
Required Experience
- Clinical nursing experience – Minimum 5 years' hands-on nursing experience
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in a school or paediatric setting (highly preferred)
- Experience working in settings involving child health, wellness, or education
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered Nurse qualification – Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (KRCHN or BSc Nursing) from accredited institution
- Valid practicing license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and CPR
Skills and Attributes
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, teachers, and health professionals
- Comprehensive child health knowledge (growth stages, common illnesses, vaccination schedules)
- Emergency preparedness and calm decision-making during crises
- Excellent record-keeping abilities and respect for confidentiality
- Empathy, patience, compassion, and child-centered care approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
