About Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development
The mandate of the Ministry is to ensure 100% Food and Nutrition Security and to improve the livelihoods of rural Kenyans by transforming the sector to be competitive, commercially oriented and responsive to the economic needs of the country.
The Ministry comprises four State Departments:
- Crop Development and Agricultural Research
- Livestock
- Fisheries and Blue Economy
- Cooperative Development
In the devolved government structure, the Ministry (National Government) is responsible for policy formulation, regulation and creating an enabling environment for investment, while County Governments handle direct implementation of agricultural programmes.
