Asian man (muhindi) robbed at gunpoint in Kisumu CBD: Police launch investigation
Residents in Kisumu were left shaken after an Asian was reportedly robbed on Thursday afternoon in an incident that occurred behind the Shell petrol station within CBD.
According to witnesses, the man had just been dropped by a boda boda ride when he was confronted by three unknown assailants — one on foot, two on a bike with one gun — who allegedly targeted him for a package he was carrying. The attackers are said to have ambushed him and not anyone else before making away with his belongings.
Rising safety concerns
The incident has once again sparked debate about security in sections of Kisumu's CBD and surrounding neighbourhoods, especially in areas with heavy evening activity. Residents and business owners have been urging authorities to improve street lighting and increase patrols in hotspots that criminals may exploit.
Bystanders in the area reported hearing a brief commotion before the suspects fled the scene. Some traders operating nearby said the area has previously been flagged as targeted, raising concerns about security and patrol presence.
Police response
By the time of publication, it was not immediately clear whether any arrests had been made. Authorities are expected to review CCTV footage from nearby premises as investigations continue.
Community urged to remain vigilant
As the city continues to grow, residents are being encouraged to remain alert, avoid poorly lit areas at night, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement promptly.
Kisumu Kulture will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more details emerge.
