Bhang bust in Kisumu: Police arrest man with 12 bales of cannabis at Obunga
Police in Kisumu have arrested a man who was allegedly transporting a large quantity of cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang, during an operation in the city.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, April 9, by officers from Obunga Police Station in Kisumu Central Sub-County following a tip-off from a member of the public who reported suspicious activity in the area.
Drugs discovered during motorcycle search
According to police, officers on patrol stopped the suspect while he was travelling on a motorcycle and carried out a search. Hidden inside yellow polythene bags, they discovered 12 bales of a green leafy substance believed to be cannabis sativa.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently being held at Obunga Police Station as officers complete formal processing ahead of his court appearance. Authorities confirmed that the motorcycle and the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits to support the prosecution's case.
Police praise community tip-off
The National Police Service praised the member of the public whose information led to the arrest, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in tackling crime.
Police have encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities through official tip-off channels, noting that community policing remains a key tool in the fight against drug trafficking. This is echoed by most residents of Migosi, Nyalenda, Manyatta and its environs raising their concerns in regards to the increase of the drug use among the youth
Authorities say drug trafficking continues to be a growing concern in Kisumu County and have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on individuals involved in the illegal trade.
