Jambojet Adds 9th Aircraft to Meet Growing Kisumu Demand

Bussiness News: The low-cost carrier increases daily Nairobi-Kisumu flights to 7 (8 on peak days) with new Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.

Kisumu International Airport is set for busier skies as Jambojet deploys its ninth aircraft—a 78-seat Dash 8 Q400—to serve the Western Kenya route. The expansion comes as Kisumu solidifies its position as Jambojet's third-largest market after Nairobi and Mombasa.

"We've flown 254,000 passengers on the Kisumu route this year alone. This expansion ensures we meet growing demand while maintaining our famous 25-minute turnaround efficiency."
- Karanja Ndegwa, Jambojet CEO

Why This Matters for Western Kenya

The new aircraft means:

  • Increase of the 18% of Jambojet's total traffic that's comes from Kisumu
  • Separated flights for the busy Kisumu-Eldoret triangle route on weekends
  • Improved 83% on-time performance (targeting 85% in 2025)

Regional Impact

While the temporary Goma route suspension freed up capacity for Kisumu, Jambojet confirmed that airports in Kakamega and Homa Bay remain unsuitable due to runway limitations. The airline is however exploring future Kisumu-Juba flights pending demand.

📌 What Kisumu Travelers Should Know:

7 daily flights (8 on Fridays/Sundays)
No fare hikes despite jet fuel price increases
25-minute turnarounds maintain schedule reliability
Kisumu contributes 18% of total passenger traffic

Fuel Prices & Fare Freeze

Despite jet fuel costs rising from KSh63 to KSh76 per liter, Jambojet promises no immediate fare increases. "We'll only adjust if prices hit KSh100/liter," Ndegwa stated, reaffirming their commitment to affordable air travel.
