Country Director – TREES Kenya (Kisumu)
About the Opportunity
Based in Kisumu, the Country Director will lead the strategic, operational, and programmatic growth of TREES’ Kenya program. This includes overseeing the expansion of Forest Garden and carbon credit programs, growing from 18,000 to 85,000 farmers in five years.
The role requires strong leadership in finance, compliance, team building, and partnership development to ensure long-term impact and alignment with national and global goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and drive the national strategy for TREES Kenya.
- Oversee expansion of agroforestry and carbon credit programs to reach 85,000 farmers.
- Recruit and lead a high-performing local leadership team.
- Ensure risk mitigation and update the Adaptive Management Plan regularly.
Program Management
- Ensure success of Forest Garden Approach and carbon programs under VERRA VCS.
- Manage relationships with Kenya Carbon Directorate and government stakeholders.
- Implement the 40-year Permanence Plan for sustainability.
Finance and Operations
- Lead budgeting, procurement, reporting, and audits.
- Build strong administrative and HR systems to support scaling.
- Communicate with investors, respond to due diligence and audits.
External Engagement
- Represent TREES in forums, policy meetings, and media.
- Develop partnerships with donors, NGOs, and technical collaborators.
Global Contribution
- Collaborate with TREES’ international offices and cross-country programs.
- Contribute to global strategy, fundraising, and innovation initiatives.
