MAAYGO is a leading health and human rights organization championing the rights of Gender Sexual Diverse Minority (GSDM) communities in Kenya. Rooted in the community as the Men Against AIDS Youth Group, founded in 2008, we evolved into a non-governmental organization (NGO) in 2016.

MAAYGO delivers essential health services, advocates for human rights, drives social and climate justice, and builds capacity within GDSM communities.

Position: Program Officer - Key Populations

Location: Kisumu, Kenya
Organization: MAAYGO
Experience: Minimum 1 year as peer outreach worker for Key Population programs

📌 Important Note: This position is open to ALL interested candidates. All current outreach workers are also required to re-apply. No current outreach worker will be automatically retained. All applicants will be considered equally through the same selection process.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee program peer education and outreach activities including social mobilization and follow-up activities
  • Take lead in carrying out mapping for the target group within areas of operation
  • Identify and plan for all upcoming activities the project may need to take part in
  • Develop and implement client retention strategy in conjunction with the program team
  • Ensure tracking and reporting of all peer education and HIV/AIDS activities in the area
  • Set targets, help peer educators overcome challenges and note best practices
  • Ensure follow up on agreed activities and appropriate use of MOH reporting tools
  • Supervise development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies
  • Act as the community liaison officer for the program
  • Coordinate linkages for GBMSM in the program, track and report all programme activities
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by the Supervisor

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certificate-level qualification in peer education and basic management of a team
  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience as a peer outreach worker for a Key Population research program or programme
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili
  • MSM friendly and member of key population
