🌾 Agricultural Economist & Value Chain Analyst (Part-Time) – Kisumu

Organization: JAY4T (Sote Tule Social Enterprise)

Location: Kisumu, Kenya (with field travel)

Contract: 6-month consultancy (12 days/month) | KES 21,000/month

Sote Tule is a youth-led farming cooperative offering dignified work for youth and smallholder farmers. We're hiring a dedicated Agricultural Economist and Value Chain Analyst to support profitability, market access, and strategic growth.

🔍 Responsibilities

A. Market & Value Chain Analysis

  • Map and analyze markets, pricing, and demand trends.
  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Support quality alignment with market requirements.

B. Enterprise Profitability

  • Develop budgets for key crops/livestock.
  • Analyze cost structures and ROI projections.
  • Build financial models for the cooperative’s planning.

C. Business Development

  • Identify buyers, processors, and institutional partners.
  • Support partnership proposals and grant applications.
  • Assist in contract negotiations with market players.

D. Resource Management

  • Evaluate capital needs: irrigation, post-harvest, mechanization.
  • Conduct ROI and cost-benefit analysis for investments.
  • Advise on efficient resource allocation.

E. Data & Impact

  • Design and maintain production and pricing dashboards.
  • Report insights to funders and cooperative board.

F. Capacity Building

  • Train farmers on financial tracking and planning.
  • Build extension staff skills on economic tools.

G. Policy Compliance

  • Track agri-policy and market regulations.
  • Advise on compliance and incentive access.

📆 Deliverables & Timeline

12 working days per month. Reports due monthly by 28th. Sample outputs:

  • Month 1: Market brief + enterprise budget draft
  • Month 2: Enterprise models + board recommendations
  • Month 3: Partner profiles + farmer training + data dashboard
  • Month 6: Impact report + final training session

🎓 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or related field.
  • 0–2 years of experience (recent grads welcome with strong analytical skills).
  • Strong knowledge of farm economics, market systems, and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
