Launch Tournament Success

The unveiling of the new pool was marked by an inter-school swimming tournament organized in partnership with the Kisumu Aquatic Association, bringing together young swimmers from more than ten schools across Kisumu and the surrounding region.

During the launch event, learners participated in competitive races across multiple categories, with Makini School Kisumu emerging as the overall winner, accumulating 2,013 points. Trophies, medals, and certificates were awarded to recognize outstanding performances.

Professional Training Environment

Designed to meet competitive and training standards, the pool provides learners with a safe, structured, and professional environment to develop swimming skills, water safety awareness, and competitive discipline. The facility is fully managed by a qualified full-time swimming coach and a certified lifeguard, ensuring constant supervision during all training and competition sessions.

"Swimming is a life skill that builds confidence, discipline, and resilience," said Dr. Mary Okelo, Founder of Makini Schools. "This facility ensures our learners can train safely, compete effectively, and grow both in and out of the classroom."

Integrated Curriculum & Safety Measures

To enhance safety, the pool area is enclosed with Clearview fencing, while clearly displayed safety protocol boards guide learners and staff on proper pool usage and emergency procedures. Swimming lessons have also been formally integrated into the school curriculum, making aquatic training a core part of every learner's experience at Makini School Kisumu.

Regional Sports Leadership

Mr. Horace Mpanza, Regional Managing Director of Makini Schools, noted that the new pool positions the Kisumu campus as a leading centre for aquatic sports in the region.

"This swimming pool is not only an investment in infrastructure but in the future of our learners and the wider community," he said.

Strategic Infrastructure Investment

The Kisumu facility follows the recent unveiling of another state-of-the-art sports complex at Makini's Nairobi Campus, representing a combined investment of over Sh100 million in sports infrastructure across the institution.

Parents, students, and representatives from the Kisumu Aquatic Association praised the school for setting a new standard in private school sports facilities and promoting youth talent development.

The new swimming facility is expected to host regional competitions and provide training opportunities not just for Makini students, but for young swimmers across Kisumu County, contributing to the growth of aquatic sports in Western Kenya.
