Studio Lauched at Mama Grace Onyango Social Centre
Kisumu has taken another step toward strengthening its creative industry after the county officially launched a professional recording studio aimed at supporting youth in music, storytelling and digital content creation.
The new facility is located at the Mama Grace Onyango Social Centre, and is part of wider efforts by the Kisumu County Government to invest in the city's growing creative economy.
Opening doors for local talent
During the launch, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o said the studio represents a major milestone in giving young creatives access to modern equipment and professional spaces to develop their talents.
County leaders say the goal is to help young people move from informal production to high-quality professional work that can compete in national and global markets. The facility is expected to support musicians, podcasters, filmmakers and digital creators from across the region.
Strengthening cultural partnerships
The launch was attended by French Ambassador Arnaud Suquet, highlighting the growing cultural partnership between Kenya and France.
The collaboration has been strengthened through the return of Alliance Française in Kisumu, which has been working with the county to revive arts, culture and language programmes in the city.
From social hall to creative hub
Officials also reflected on the history of the social centre, which has evolved from a community hall into a modern cultural and creative space. The addition of the recording studio is expected to give young people a safe and professional environment to produce music, tell stories and build careers in the creative sector.
The project signals Kisumu's growing ambition to position itself as a regional hub for arts, culture and youth innovation.
