Accountant Job - Property Management Company Kisumu

Contract Details: Two-year contract position with six-month probation period. Reports directly to the Chief Accountant.

Position Overview

We are looking to hire an accountant who will support the finance and accounting functions within our company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, proper record-keeping, timely reconciliations, and compliance with internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and journals
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in a timely manner
  • Support the field property management team
  • Manage petty cash (reimbursements, replenishing float)
  • Prepare monthly bank, tenant, and landlord reconciliations
  • Support the Chief Accountant in tax compliance processes
  • Assist in preparing periodic financial statements and management reports
  • Verify and post rent collections, utility billings, and service charge statements
  • Support the preparation of monthly property financial reports for landlords
  • Assist in billing tenants and monitoring outstanding rent and arrears
  • Ensure proper filing and documentation of all financial records
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing required documentation
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and relevant laws and regulations
  • Assist in budget preparation and expenditure monitoring
  • Support asset management, inventory control, and financial analysis
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in accounting
  • Preferably in property management or real estate
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications
  • Understanding of Kenyan tax laws and financial regulations
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
