Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) has been serving the community for over a century, established in the early 1900s to cater for health needs in the port town of Kisumu. Today, it serves as a referral hospital for County, Sub-county, and private hospitals in more than 10 Counties in Western Kenya, serving a population of over 10 million people.

Hospital History:

  • Originally established to combat malaria and other diseases in Port Florence
  • Victoria Hospital added in 1932 during colonial era
  • Commissioned in 1969 with continuous government development
  • Currently managed by Kisumu County Government

Experience: 1-3 years relevant work experience

Job Purpose

The ICT Assistant provides technical support by maintaining systems, networks, and hospital software. This contribution strengthens digital operations and secure data management at JOOTRH.

Academic Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in any of the following disciplines:
    • Information Communication Technology
    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • ICT Project Management
    • Computer Engineering
    • Information Systems
    • Business Management and Information Technology
    • Cyber Security or equivalent qualification from recognized institution

Required Certifications (Any of the following)

  • Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE)
  • Linux (RHCSA/RHCE)
  • VMware (VCP)
  • ITIL Foundation
  • CCNA / CCNP
  • Fortinet NSE
  • CompTIA Network+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)
  • Experience with CCTV vendors

Behavioral Competences and Skills

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking
  • Ability to troubleshoot ICT problems effectively
  • Familiarity with hospital management systems (added advantage)
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office, databases)
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
